Trigger warning....the word "cutting" here is used to describe how we hurt ourselves emotionally. When we break up with a partner, why do we revisit past arguments? Check social media? When we live through a trauma, why do we recall the pain?
The experience of loss and pain and trauma is beneficial. We're on a mission to make sense of it all - to create a story in our heads that makes the trauma more liveable. But sometimes it just doesn't make sense. Or we "cut" emotionally to no effect. And in these cases, we spin and waste our energy.
